Shopping Spree

I went on a little shopping spree today on line. As I have mentioned in previous posts, my wardrobe is seriously hurting, so today I bit the bullet and bought some stuff. And here are a few of my purchases:Linen Blend Apron Dress
(I thought this would be cute just to bum around town in.. may be awful once I actually put it on)
Gap

Hip Slung Easy Flare Pant
(Just some basic light colored chinos to wear to the office or on weekends)
Gap

Patchwork Mini
(It's probably a little juvenile, but I couldnt resist! )
Old Navy

Gathered Skirt
(I thought this would be a good office skirt. It looks a little short on the model, but I am only 5'4" with short legs, so I am hoping it's a little longer)
Banana Republic

All items I got on sale, plus free shipping and 25% off my order!! I just had to do it. I also got some plain ol t-shirts. One can never have to many white t's!

All images came from Old Navy/Gap/Banana Republic

What the H$#% is summer break?

It's that time of year when I start to get really sad I am not in school any more. Obviously for the sheer pleasure of having a summer break. 3 months of having absolutely nothing to do except go to the pool and get a tan (and maybe take a trip to the beach).

I can't tell you the last time I had a summer like that. Even when I was in high school and college, I always had a job. I even worked one summer every single day at Pier1 or a country club, lifeguarding (which was really easy and basically satisified my need to hang out by a pool).

Now, I see people on facebook and blogs talking about their "summer plans" to not be working or going on trips! I am way jealous. I will be locked away at my desk all summer, in the cool of the A/C, being pale as a ghost.

Not Lost

Is anyone else really OVER all this talk about LOST?! Maybe it's because I didnt watch the show, but I am slightly tired of reading everyone's facebook posts and/or blog posts about it.. Show is over, move on !! :)

I guess I could counter attack by talking about the 2 hour season finale of Celebrity Apprentice that I watched instead, but I'll spare you the details. :)

Happy Monday!!

Best Potato Salad Ever?

We are having hotdogs and hamburgers today at work for lunch.. kind of a quasi cookout. So I opted to make something for the occasion. I decided on potato salad, because really, what goes better with h & h than potato salad?? I had origianally called my mom and my aunt for recipes but neither were home so I had to go digging. And found this recipe:

Best Potato Salad

Ingredients:
8 large Yukon gold potatoes
6 hard boiled eggs, chopped
1 lb. bacon diced in to large pieces
1 large white onion, chopped
2 cups of mayonnaise
1 cup. sour cream
3 tbsp. milk
2 cups. Shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup of goat cheese.

Directions:
Boil potatoes until tender and then let them cool down.
Cook the bacon and onions till the bacon is done and the onions are golden brown.
Drain the bacon drippings into a small mixing bowl and mix the milk mayo and sour cream with the drippings.
Ok now in a large bowl add the potatoes, eggs, the onion and bacon mixture and the dressing. Mix it all up till everything is coated.
Cover and chill for 3 hours.

My one issue with the directions though is where does the cheese come in!??! I added the shredded cheese later, but totally forgot the goat cheese, which was my favorite part of the whole thing!

I think it tastes pretty good.. we'll see what the office thinks.. Oh and btw, potato salad takes FOREVER to make! I thought it was going to be quick and easy.. not so much, try 2 hours!

A Prayer

My father is going in for another MRI today on his brain. Please say a prayer for him and my family that everything is still going in the correct direction.

He has done so well so far and we pray that it continues to go in that direction.

Now I'm antsy.

Back on track

SOOOOO.. I really need to get my ass back and gear. After the 1/2 marathon I basically took two weeks off. I said I was only going to take one week off, but that didn't work out as well as planned. I am just having a hard time because I have no "goal". I would love to say that losing 10 lbs is my ultimate goal ( and it is ) but somehow that just doesn't motivate me to get into a workout routine.

Last week I had decided that I was going to actually do the P90X, as intended (every day) for my last phase... since i skipped the last week of Phase 2 (oops!) And also, incorporate some running. I started off the week pretty strong:
Monday: 2 miles, chest & back, Ab Ripper
Tuesday: Cardio X
Wednesday: nada (was supposed to be Yoga X, but I really don't like Yoga so I couldnt force myself)
Thursday: 2 miles, Shoulders & Arms, Ab Ripper
Friday: nada (was supposed to be Core Synergistics)
Saturday: nada (was supposed to be Kenpo X)
Sunday: nada (rest day)

So really, I did do something 3 days, but I still feel like I failed a little bit. I am trying to get back on schedule this week. Picking up where I left off and moving everything back until I can catch up again. I am also going to try my hardest to run too (on my strength days). I dont want to completely loose everything I worked so hard for with the 1/2 marathon, since i am hopng to start training at the beginning of June.

I guess my main issue is that I just don't feel like i have enough hours in the day.. I know I have complained about this before so I won't get into it, but it's really my downfall. That and not having someone pushing me to do it. I was doing good when we were training because I had to hold G accountable which meant I had to be accountable too.

So, I dont know, I am just complaining and want to get it back together. I am determined to reach my year goal of being in the best shape ever and losing some weight. I know I have picked up a few pounds from last year and I am not happy about it, but, I am coming back.

I just have to keep it up.

And soon, my eating habits HAVE to change... if I am learning anything it's that exercise is DEFINITELY not enough. UGH.. I just want to be one of those "naturally" thin people.. hate them..

Healthy?

Two different people ordering off menus.... and seemingly trying to be "healthy"

Instance 1:
Place: QDoba Mexican Grill
Order: (placed by guy in late 30s)
Naked Burrito with chicken
no salsa, no veggies, cheese and sour cream.
His order consisted of rice, chicken, cheese and sour cream...
dont you think you want something green on there buddy? I mean you are trying to be all healthy and all by not ordering the tortilla wrap and getting a water... what makes you think that having a completely yellow meal is a good idea??

Instance 2:
Place: McDonalds (I was going for a coke, I know bad, bad)
Order: (again placed by a guy in his late 30s)
Regular, crispy chicken, snack wrap
no lettuce!
Plus a powerade and french fries..
again, you are taking the only thing that is green out of your order.. and lettuce doesnt taste like anything!! Trying to be healthy by ordering the powerade?

I realize I am probably completely wrong in thinking I know what these people are trying to order.. it just didnt make much sense to me with the rest of their meal. And by the time you are in your 30s, don't you know you need to eat something green!!! I am not sure why these two instances stuck out to me, but they did and I felt the need to share. It's probably because I have been thinking alot about health, nutrition and what exactly goes into our bodies, lately. But never the less, I was ordering a real coke and McD and mexican gumbo at Qdoba (hey it has veggies!)

Toes

(I had to go back and make sure I hadnt already talked about this... it's a recurring topic in my head).

Toes.

Toes kind of gross me out. More specifically, toe nails. I think they are probably one of the grossest things ever. And I am not exactly sure why. Even more specifically than just toe nails, is toe trauma! Like, bruised toe nails, or fungus or what have you. Any kind of damage involving toes sicken's me.
This particular video makes me cringe and gag... what is the point?!?!? GROSS!!
When he lifts up the nail... gag... can't even talk about it.

I am also not a fan of toe nail polish. All you are doing is just making everyone look at your nasty little piglets! And what is worse, FRENCH PEDICURES! YUCK YUCK YUCK... it just says "hey look, I have long toe nails!".. which are sick. Seriously, who invented that? It's not that I don't like feet. I have no problem with feet.. it's more just toe nails... they gross me out.
But I do love a pedicure ;) And I went and got one last night with my mom for a late Mother's Day event. I always either get a very pale pink, that matches my skin tone, or clear. Can't have pink or red, then all I see are my toes flopping around when I walk in sandals.. not what I want to do. I have branched out one or two times and gotten a flower, but that is just because it is fun.. but still kind of makes me ill.

Does anyone else have this serious dislike for toes?
( I realize this is a bit of rant.. but it was just in my head today.. ew toes!)

Mother's Day

Mother's Day is one of the best days of the year... Most everyone has a mother, of some sort, and should celebrate all that she has done for you. My mother is extremely special because of all the helps she gives my dad every day. That woman is amazing. I *heart* her.

So, for Mother's Day on Sunday, we are going to see WICKED!! I am ultra pumped.. it is such a great show. My dad and G are even joining in the festivities. And on the topic of G and my mom, he is such the best son-in-law ever.. he went and mulched her yard today.. I *heart* him too.

So YAY for Mothers and Wicked!

coke and cookies for bfast?

apparently this morning that is the breakfast of champions! ugh.

Yesterday was Cinco De Mayo.. of course.. so we had to go out and celebrate (just another holiday to take in a vast amount of alcohol when no one really knows the reason for the celebration... here's some reading if you want to know the reason http://www.vivacincodemayo.org/history.htm) Anyway.. so I went out and had a few margaritas..yum! Mostly sugar really with a bit of tequila.. but I woke up today not feeling well at all. I dont know if it was actually the tequila or something we ate (which we ended up getting sushi because the mexican was taking to long). Needless to say, todays food choices havent been steller.

Bfast-- real coke, soft batch cookies (i was starving and nothing else looked good at the walgreen's)
lunch -- mcD's.. it's my go-to fast food choice. and it was gross.

I am hoping to have a more sensible dinner.. we shall see

2nd race... which one?!?!

Chicago Half Marathon - Sept 12, 2010

Or

Maui Half Marathon - Sept 19, 2010

I know the Maui seems like the obvious choice, since it's hawaii and all.... but expenses do come in to play.

WINNER WINNER!!

Chicken dinner!!!

haha.

This past weekend was the 136th running of the Kentucky Derby.. and you better believe I was out at Churchill Downs to watch it happen. We had another great year of hanging out in the paddock and betting on races. And G and I actually had a pretty successful day as far as winning goes. The big win of the day was me winning the Exacta (first 2 horses) on the Derby race!!! I haven't won out at the track for years, and this was a big pay out. So I walked away ahead on the day :)

G and I have been to the track for the last 6 years.. (starting this year, and going back to 2005
